FRIDA KAHLO-STYLE PORTRAIT COLLAGE

Get online with dynamic artist-instructor, Victoria Wallace @Station Gallery and create your very own self-portrait in the style of Frida Kahlo, iconic Mexican painter known for her many portraits, self-portraits, and works inspired by nature and artifacts of her native Mexico. Using acrylic paint, cut out images and a photo of yourself (or whoever you'd like to do a Frida Kahlo-style portrait of), you will assemble imagery and create a narrative self-portrait in this super fun workshop.
Suggested Materials List:

16” x 20” gessoed canvas

A coloured or black and white photocopy of your face, almost filling an 8.5” x 11” sheet of printing paper. Have a few printed – instructor will explain which I best to choose

Plenty of cut out flower and large leaf images from magazines (old National Geographics are great). You can use real dried flowers and leaves, as well. Or you can use store-bought fake/paper flowers (available at Michael’s or dollar stores)

Select and photocopy photos of your favourite pets, places (like cottages or chairs you like to sit on, pictures of your favourite books, etc.) And cut them out so you can collage them around yourself portrait.

Select and photocopy photos of people you love or have loved – the people in your life that are important. Photos of their faces, photos of them with you, or full figure images

Pieces of lace or fabric trim

Old pieces of your jewellery, like earrings or pins

Acrylic paint and polymer medium or Podgy and brushes, water container, palette or pie plates to mix colours.
