Exhibition Overview
When the old Whitby railway station was slated for demolition fifty years ago, a dedicated and visionary group sprang into action to save the building. They recognized the value of landmarks. Built in an era when rail stations were status symbols indicating the prosperity of the town it served, Whitby’s station was a one-of-a-kind expression of the Victorian age.
During Station Gallery’s 50th anniversary, we’ll survey how artists and image-makers have represented Whitby’s most celebrated landmark since 1903.
