The month of September is upon us, which means that it is the season of apple picking, pumpkin spice lattes, sweater weather, and registering for the Station Gallery’s Fall and Winter classes! Among the long list of visual art programs offered at SG are a series of classes designed specifically for young artists (aged 11-15). Whether they have been developing their artistic skills over the past few years or have just recently picked up a paintbrush, charcoal stick, or perhaps even a spraypaint can, SG has them covered. Here is a closer look at some of our exciting, up-coming youth classes:
Imagine a space where you are immersed in creativity and artistic exploration. Youth Underground Studio provides a welcoming, friendly, and non-competitive environment for young artists to learn about familiar and new art-making practices, techniques and materials. This program runs on the first Sunday of every month from November 2019 to March 2020 and is ideal for young artists aged 11 to 15. They will have the opportunity to build on their studio practices, while also engaging with their peers during supportive and constructive critique sessions. Underground Studio is an excellent outlet for young artists to reflect on their own works of art and to continuously expand their knowledge of artistic practices.
Vibrant. Dynamic. Trendy. These are just a few ways to describe the modern subculture that has taken the world by storm over the past few decades. From Banksy to Jean-Michel Basquiat, students will learn about the numerous graffiti artists who made strides in this artistic practice, sparking a provocative debate on the position of graffiti styles in the realm of fine art. For this program, students will have a chance to create their own works of art inspired by the techniques graffiti artists use locally and globally. Make your mark on the graffiti art scene this winter at Station Gallery every Saturday from January 25 to March 7!
Portfolio Essentials was designed specifically for up-and-coming, young artists (aged 11-15) to build a well-rounded and successful portfolio for their secondary or post-secondary school applications. This class takes place every Wednesday night from November 6 to 27. During these sessions, seasoned art educator Marni Bachuk will lead students through a series of projects and studies to create works based on what the top art schools are looking for. Portfolio Essentials provides students with an opportunity to develop their artistic skills and gain confidence going forward in their professional artistic careers. Students will receive expert advice and encouragement from Marni and their peers to further develop their portfolios. Students will walk away with a comprehensive and enriched portfolio that is sure to impress their admission committees.
We hope to meet your aspiring young artists at one of our upcoming programs soon!
